I've never seen any PUG ask for a mesmer, I have said to PUG's when mesmers wanted to join that they're great in Tombs but the success rate of that has been low.
Most PUG's want cookie cutter teams which in their idea 'can't fail', ofcourse these contain all the..ahem.. PRO players who rage quit within 10 minutes because the rest isnt l33t enough for their mad skillz, oh and god forbid anyone makes a mistake, thats totally unforgivable and immediately followed by "you noob(z)! I'm outta here!"
I've now officially given up on PUG's, they're a waste of time and generally filled with either moron rage quitters or people who are clueless yet insist on not listening to well meant advice.
The easiest run I've ever had was with a friend of ours playing mesmer instead of his usual monk.

I've completed tombs 5 times before i actually got a drop,(also have had my connection drop in there a few times too, tht really annoys me lol) then next 2 runs i got Victos blade each time but thing is i actually enjoy doing tombs regardless, getting in a good group n clearing all 4 levels to me is a lot of fun, its something new and i really enjoy it...the drops r a bonus for me!!

I've had some great PUGs and some lousy ones. I usually get some greens, twice I got Victo's Battle axe, a number of times I got the maul :/, kole's gauntlet, both of Elswyth's bows and the Earth ele staff.
A guy from my guild got the bulwark the other day. He is always lucky in his drops
Oh yeah, and I usually go in with my ranger, along with an order necro, a mm, a monk and other rangers. But of course we would take a mesmer too, they are not to be underestimated.

I am starting to have some sort of strange ideas about mechanics for green drops for both tombs and SF, greens seems always to drop more often if a run dont do so well when members die alot and rezzed since i gotten more greens in these runs than on a perfect grp with no deaths.... wonder if anyone notice the same things?

poor guy ( i dont mean ilterally) i got mine for 10k when i wasnt even trying to look for a bargain after a month tombs was release. Guess it says alot about Bulwark shield selling for 80-90k now. hmm i am wondering how much it will be selling for when Factions release along with that collectors sheild +30hp always -5 damage (20%) in less then 10 days.

At first I liked Tombs for a while, usually got the same greens everytime though, nothing new, not much for rewards, not much of a challenge after a while. Once the greens got old, and the challenge got old, it just turned into another SF for me. UW and FoW don't really appeal to me either.
waaah, lol

Ok, time to open up the POST Sear Catacombs in Sardelac and have NEW weapons drop, maybe after factions to keep people interested in Tyria. Maybe the Undead Gwen could be the boss you gotta kill

For the different complaints people have for Tombs...
It takes too long...
Not if you join a B/P group. On average I'd say that even an average PUG B/P can clear Tombs in about 45 minutes, probably just a bit longer than a typical Oro run in SF. I do 1-2 runs just about every evening, and that's after work, dinner, gvg/ha, etc.
Drop rates suck...
Well, yes and no. Gold items that actually drop are very rare, as well as ectos. I've only gotten 2 gold items as drops (not chests) in probably 50+ runs. Chests, on average, are maybe 33% gold chests, and of those, it's probably 50-50 if the items class the chest is set to be something decent (in other words, not a wand/staff/cesta chest).
But the drops rates are far superior for "green items" in Tombs than SF runs. Before the changes to Tombs (new greens) I farmed SF a ton as a MM, and maybe 1 out of 8 Oro runs I'd get maybe one green item. Maybe. All I really managed to get out of all of those Oro/FA runs was two Drago's Flat Bows, Morgriff's Staff, and one Malinon's Shield plus a small handful of relatively worthless items that no one wants or uses (10% rockmolder anymore?).
But in Tombs, I've gotten items that are actually useful, even if they aren't worth a ton of money. Most of the staffs are worthwhile to use every day, especially the necro and mesmer items, and the Victos items can net you some nice coin. I've gotten 3 of Elswyth's Recurve Bow (vamp), 3 Victo's Mauls, 2 Victo's Axes, and a Bulwark as well as Koles and Illyana's Staffs. Just about every run I get at least one green on average.
I've probably done about 3x the SF runs than I have the Tombs runs, and comparing the # of items I've gotten from each isn't even close.
Now, unless you're a necro (MM or Orders), a ranger with barrage and a pet, or a healing monk, clearing Tombs can take the 2-3 hours people mention. That can make the whole Tombs thing "unprofitable" for most, I would imagine. My answer to this is - go make a monk, necro, or ranger, and join the B/P groups, and farm more efficiently. Most people who farm have either a monk or a necro already, so it shouldn't be that big of an issue. The only real losers are the stance tanks and echo nukers who were hot commodities for SF farming runs, they are the ones faced with the choice of rolling a new character, or enduring the long runs (I won't talk about Mesmers, they have always been screwed, this is nothing new).
Simply look at the prices for items - all of the Tombs greens are so common that they sell for peanuts, and the big ticket item - the Bulwark - has been slowly declining in price as the market gets more and more.
Cliffs:
-Green Drops for Tombs are actually more common than SF.
-Dislike the amount of time it takes to clear Tombs? Join a B/P group.
-Mesmers are screwed again.
And as always, this is my personal opinion, but based on literally hundreds of runs done between SF and Tombs.

Very true - but farming trolls/griffons/whatever is even more mind numbingly boring than Tombs - IMO.

Face it... the PvE in Prophecies is played out. It's been a year and there hasn't been anything significant besides Sorrows Furnace and a few new quests. If you're going there for some excitement/action then it's not going to happen.
Personally, I go there just to have a bit of fun with either my ranger or necro.
In this game the farming profit is seriously low everywhere except UW/FoW.

I stopped farming Tombs the moment i found my 2nd Bulwark. Got 2 of the decent items and many more of the really shoddy greens no-one wants.
Got sick of all the groups that you spent absolutely ages doing, got to the 4th floor and some tit lures everything and screws you over in seconds. Also when playing my Order necro, too many times has the monk left and i've had to monk the whole damn team on my own through the entire of floor 3 onwards then got jack shit when we killed the Darkness. Even worse was when we reached the Darkness without an MM, a few of us got killed so the monk just quit on us like that. Thankfully our next attack we wiped all 3 out no problems...

i think how it is is fine. i think greens should be more rare infact. like maybe 25% chance that a green will even drop... they are slowly taking over all weapon trade. making them rarer will only do better for really rare items like golds etc.
The game is all about greens and i am no different, all my charracters have over 2 green sets that they use. they are "over farmed"
Anet should make the drop rate A LOT less.
factions should help this issue i think.. new area to explore etc.. will be interesting.
